Designed by William F. Bell in 1962 and renovated by Gil Hanse’s company in 2006, this is a hidden gem in every sense of the word. It is a hilly property dotted with towering oaks and a few holes make good use of a central arroyo as a primary hazard. The jagged bunker style is reminiscent of those found on many courses built in California during the golden age of golf course architecture. The first tee shot plays down off of a bluff, and from the walk down to the fairway onward you just know it’s going to be a pleasant day; absolutely worth a game here if you’re in the area.
Also, if someone who knows the course really well happens to read this, please make an entry for Rustic Canyon in nearby Moorpark; no log of courses is complete without it.
