Laguna Salada, the 17th hole, has a very similar tee shot to the 16th. It shares its name with the lagoon on the right side of the hole. This right side is still the most dangerous side of the fairway, but also provides the best approach to the green. The left side is extremely safe, even errant shots left will end up in the 16th fairway, but the approach will be block by three large sand traps.
Again note that the environmental penalty area here may not be entered, so any shot that misses right must result in a drop.
The green itself also features a strong ridge, so placement here is key. If the pin over the ridge in the back left, then the left side of the green is best. If it’s in the front right, then being behind the hole at all will make the putts extremely dangerous. If the pin is up on the ridge, front left, then putts will be extremely difficult from any position.
