“Fact! A boxcar full of sand was buried under the seventh green on the Lawsonia Links course to create it’s elevation.”
The sign in the clubhouse lays out the history of this signature par 3. The hole is a volcano green with an elevation rarely seen in golf. While the shot is relatively straight forward, anybody who misses the green is in serious trouble. The hole falls off about 30 feet on the right side, and about 6 feet on the left. The greens are fast, and it’s not uncommon to wedge up but run off the opposite side of the green. The grass is long enough to prevent the ball from running all the way down the sides, leading players to some ridiculous lies if they run off while wedging back onto the green.
The green slopes front-to-back, so there is no ideal bail out area, but it’s likely best to miss short left. The green has two distinct tiers. The front upper tier should funnel down to the lower tier if played correctly.
