The tenth is an extremely challenging par 3. This hole may be one of the longest par 3’s most players will play, and the slight uphill can be intimidating. Many will opt for their driver, but the bailout area is over the bunker on the right side, short of the green. Anything left or long is a complete disaster due to the complex green. Anything missed right will take a brilliant sand shot to save par.
The ideal shot is a standard draw, straight over the fairway bunker into the slope of the green, but the safer shot may just be fading one short of the green (clear of all the trouble).
“A lot of people, this wouldn’t be their favorite hole at Lawsonia, because it’s a par 3 and it’s 240 yards.
It’s 240, you got to stand up and hit a great shot… This green has got these two huge spines that cut at diagonals, and it creates like three tiers. The right bunker is deep, it’s like ten feet below the ground, so you’re dead in there. And then if you go long, the green slopes really, severely from back-to-front, so you’re pitching downhill, it’s just really hard.
It’s just an awesome golf hole. If you remove par – if there were no pars – I think people would say ‘this is one of my favorite holes’ and it’s probably a lot of people’s least favorite hole… but it’s absolutely stunning.”
