Hole 18 Discussion

The 18th hole is one of the most famous holes in golf. This is Alister MacKenzie’s winning entry to the Country Life competition for the Lido two-shot hole. Getting home here will be a walk through history.

The drive gives players three choices: play right for the shortest drive, play left for a safe drive with an ideal approach, or play the heroic shot over the huge bunker leaving a short iron into the green.

The approach will depend on choices off the tee, but the bunkering short of the green will likely mean many players short off the tee will need to lay up short left.

The green has two major contours, a shelf in back and a trough in front. The biggest concern, however, are the bunkers on three sides.
