As the name suggest, Roon the Bend is a hole dominated by an extreme dogleg left. The tee shot here is about angle, not about distance. The tee shot plays easily to the dogleg, approximately 135 yards to reach the turn. Men wanting to reach the green in regulation, however, need to shape the ball around the corner is much as possible. There are serious risks to this. Anything too far left is in the trees, anything too long can end up in a valley past the landing area, and anything too perfect, can run out into a creek.
Ideally, play around the bend here will end up just short of the creek, yet from the edge of the fairway, to the front edge of the green is still about 200 yards, with out-of-bounds along the entire left side.
The green is another hourglass, with twin bunkers on each side. There isn't much players can do but take big risks here, opting for playing the hole in five strokes is the only way to manage the hole without needing perfectly struck, complex shots.
