Hole 4 Discussion

McLaren, hole 4, is a par 5 across the highway from the rest of the course and is the first hole in the canyon section, away from the links. The tee shot is forgiving on the right side, but anyone trying to reach the green in two needs to be left of center.

The second shot is fairly open, and also allows much leeway on the right side. Note the trap short right may catch anyone who is a bit too ambitious, trying to reach the green from too far away. Anyone trying to reach the green in two will need a very well placed shot as the green will kick left, and most running shots will roll off the left side.

A close approach should allow more precision to the green. The green is wildly sloped, so precision can save putts. Most of the slope of the green is to the left side and back to front, but the green forms a saddle toward the front, making longer putts very challenging. The bunker on the right side is a danger, and can make it difficult to hold the green getting out.
