#10, St Andrews, is extremely challenging for all but the longest hitters. The hole is a slow, dogleg left, that will require a long tee shot, and a long approach, both ideally will play to a standard draw.
The tee shot is all about getting a straight shot to the green. Anything short will not make the corner. Anything that misses right may end up in the penalty area, and will add a lot of distance to the approach shot. To complicate this, there is a series of mounds that block anything running low and left to cut the corner. Ending up on these mounds will likely give the player an uneven stance.
A high lofted tee shot may get over the trees, and cut the corner, and if this shot is pulled off, the player will be rewarded. A thoughtless, straight tee shot can fly through the fairway, into the hardpan gap on the far side.
The approach shot will likely be more than 160 yards. Trees and bunkers sit on the left side to potentially punish the same over-drawn shot that may have rewarded the player from the tee.
The green is dual sloping, and the front right and center left pin positions can be extremely challenging.
