Hole 8 Discussion

#8 is a short, slightly downhill par 3. While it may seem easy on the scorecard, there are quite a few issues the player faces here.

The first cause for concern here is bunkers. The green is surrounded by three bunkers. There were four, but the rear bunker appears to have been recently removed. The front bunker is deceptively short of the green. The green slopes back-to-front so playing to the back of the green will almost certainly leave a downhill putt. The street behind the green also presents out-of-bounds to worry about.

The second concern is the awkward elevation difference. The back tees are up above the fairway by a good ten feet, however, the fairway raises up to the green, so it’s difficult to say what the actual elevation difference is.

Finally, the tee is placed in a position where wind can be quite dangerous. This hole is the only place on the course directly exposed to the river, so if there is wind along the river be wary of high shots.

The green has two distinct tiers, the back left and the front. It is also strongly sloped on the right side. Getting close is necessary for a birdie, as this hole can be very easy to three-putt.
