Hole 1 is a welcoming par 4, slight dogleg left, that allows for a pretty easy tee shot before narrowing sharply to the hole. Accuracy is paramount over distance here, as you need to work the ball into a playable area between the trees. Note the small fairway bunkers that will punish shots that run out, but there is also a grass bunker short that needs to be carried.
The approach here will bring the player into the redwoods. Getting the ball safely to the green is the goal, as anything that hits the trees will likely be disaster. Note there is out-of-bounds just off the back of the green, so missing long is dangerous.
