Northland Country Club’s Donald Ross-designed course isn’t just a gorgeous, brilliantly designed golf course. It’s also a small piece of golfing history. Many people don’t realize this, but Donald Ross is known for laying the foundation of America’s golf industry.

Hailing from the Scotland, where golf was invented, Ross spent his life savings to move to the U.S. around the turn of the century. His first job was at a country club and the rest is history. He designed about 400 courses during the first half of the 20th century, providing a classic, natural blueprint for the gold standard of golf course design during that period.
