The Minnesota Valley Country Club is notable for it’s highly contested claims of Seth Raynor heritage. Critics claim it was William. D. Clark that designed and built the course, and there is a significant amount of evidence that backs this up.
The Minneapolis Star states on Page 16, June 13, 1924:
A report on the progress in construction of the new Bloomington course will be made to members at a dinner at The Automobile Club, Bloomington at 7 p. m. today.
W. D. Clark, who planned the course and is superintending the work will lead an inspection hike over the course preceding the dinner.
This meeting is corroborated by the same day’s issue of the Minnesota Daily Star. Other records that may help back up the case for Clark include the Minneapolis Star (11-21-1923), Minneapolis Tribune (9-27-1940), and while it is effectively impossible to prove that Raynor was absolutely not involved, without any comparable record to suggest Raynor is the course designer, the claim remains dubious.
