The old Scottish Ballad “Maxwelton by the Sea” was the inspiration for the name of the course. A Scottish immigrant commissioned the course in the mid 1920’s; with construction beginning in 1928 and the course opening in 1930. The rolling fairways, changes in elevation and the small undulating greens is very reminiscent of Scottish golf architecture; this design has provided more than 75 years of challenging and enjoyable golf for our members and the resident of Kosciusko and the surrounding counties. Our state of the art irrigation system combines with modern agronomy practices make playing conditions exceptional while the course maintains its traditional aura. We have come a long, long way from using teams of mules to build the natural push-up greens, as it was done, in 1928. Accurate shot making, strategy and a solid putting stroke will be great advantages at Maxwelton. The sloping fairways and a great traditional design makes the prevailing wind cause the course not to play the same two days in a row. Many courses become predictable and a bit boring after a few rounds; not Maxwelton. A change of tees or breeze will bring an entirely new set of features into play and change the course significantly. This course is a challenge for every level of playing skills, come give it your best!
