Originally opening as a nine hole course, Lone Tree was built on open hillsides adjacent to Mount Diablo State Park and was defined by the grassy hills the course was set upon. Nine more holes were constructed in the early 1950’s and through the years various trees were added which gave the course the definition it now knows. In 1990 the decision was made to redo the majority of green complexes to sand based greens, and the task was successfully undertaken. The current greens on holes #12 and 15 are not only from the original construction, but are the two smallest greens on the course requiring golfers to have sharp accuracy.
