The closing hole is a slight dog-leg left Par 4, with a nice view of the Newport bound Claiborne Pell Bridge in the background. Like Hole 1, out of bounds runs up both sides of the hole – keep the drive in play for any chance to reach the green in regulation. The 2nd shot plays longer than most think, especially played from the blue tees.

The green is guarded by 3 large sand bunkers and the green is very fast back to front slope, making lag putting crucial for a good score.

Plays as kind of a counterpoint to the opener, but where the opener is a gentle handshake this kind of acts like a slap on the butt as you leave. The back tees play really, really long compared to the other two. There is an unfair/penal patch of rough in the middle of the fairway that can catch an errant drive. If you’re playing the middle or front tees you can get away with less than driver to avoid that rough.

Second shot plays a club or two longer than the yardage shows. Not a mean hole by any means, but not necessarily a kind one to your score either. Like a few others on this course, straight is the way to play the hole. A lot of folks end up left in the trees which forces a chip out for the approach shot as there are too many branches to navigate. Same with the right side.
