The 5th hole is a downhill Par 5 that is reachable in two strokes. The elevated tee shot is flanked by OB right (houses) and OB left (woods), and is the most difficult on the course for that reason. The player’s choice for the second shot will depend on if the flag is in the left or right of the green. When the pin is on the left, layup. When it is on the right, go for it. The right side of the green also features a large fairway collection area that is hidden on the approach. This hole is my personal favorite because it creates a very high variance of scores while still playing fair.
Tips:
-If you don’t absolutely love your driver, this is a great hole to put it away–especially if the pin is in the left and reaching in 2 is out.
-If the pin is in the left, going for the green is not a good choice.
-If laying up to 150-50yds short, aim further right than you think. The fairway sends balls leftward and the left edge of the fairway drops off sharply.
-If going for the green, missing a little right is okay.
