Hole 2 Discussion

On Hole #2, Gleneagles again pits precision against power, as once again players must place their tee shots on an uneven fairway. Every extra yard of the tee shot on this hole is rewarded, as precise distance on the approach shot is the best way to make par.

The fairway tilts to the right and the entire length of the right side is a red staked hazard, so anything moving that way is in danger. Add to that, a fairway bunker sitting, again, on the right, ready to catch anything well struck with a driver. Most locals play a mid-to-long iron here, leaving a challenging shot to the green.

On the approach, correct distance is paramount. Players cannot be short of the green or roll up to it, as there are two large, visible bunkers. Note, however, especially with the prevailing wind from behind, that anything that misses very long has a chance to run down the large slope behind the green.

The green does have a gentle slope back to front, so stopping the ball on a high trajectory is very possible.
