Hole 18 Discussion

The final hole at Gleneagles again brings all the challenges that the course is known for. Now a par 4, this hole will play very different from the par 5 version.

The tee shot is all about keeping the ball straight. Again, we play from an uneven tee box, which will move the ball left towards the dangerous slope and trees on the left side of the fairway. A straight or fading tee shot can be played surprisingly conservatively, but still must be solid enough to reach an approach position to the elevated green.

Once again, no matter how good the drive is, the hole hinges on the approach. Reaching the correct tier can save more than one stroke. The shot is likely to be more challenging than the front 9 approach, but it should be familiar.

On the green, the same strategies should be employed as noted on hole #9.
