Rancho Canada Golf Club president Anthony Lombardo wrote a letter to members announcing the closure.

“After 47 years of operation, I am sorry to inform you that Rancho Canada Golf Club will be closing. Most of the golf course is on land which was leased in the late 1960s from the Hatton family. We had hoped that the Hatton family would extend our lease, but they decided to put the property up for sale for $10 million. It was not possible for us to purchase the property at that price,” Lombardo wrote.

The Hatton family found a buyer, the nonprofit organization Trust for Public Land, who was able to pay the $10 million price tag.

Trust for Public Land wants to buy the property “to provide a gateway to the adjacent Palo Corona Park, restore the remainder of the golf course to a natural riparian environment, and to use the clubhouse as the permanent headquarters of the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District,” Lombardo wrote.
