Palm Lake Golf Course in Pomona closed in 2017 after a long decline, in which a series of low-budget operators didn’t have the wherewithal to make a go of the nine-hole public course.

These days the property is weedy and unkempt, its modest clubhouse and snack shop boarded up, its lake filled in.

No lake, no golf course? The signs might as well be shortened to Palm.

I’ve never played golf in my life. But I wrote about Palm Lake’s demise and, feeling a bit possessive of the story, have awaited news of its comeback.

A promising lease deal was signed with a deep-pocketed businessman in January 2018, and that was the last I heard of it.
