Our original course, now known as the Forest Course and understood to be the oldest in Hampshire, was built by local resident and landowner, Philip de Crespigny, for the entertainment of his weekend guests in about 1865. With its open aspects and rolling heathland, it is in complete contrast to the Manor Course but equally as magnificent. It was recently ranked as the 21st best course under £35 in GB&I.
The roaming ponies and deer add to the charm of the Forest Course, and many prefer to play it for its beauty and old-fashioned test of golfing skills. The prospect of a deer emerging from the trees or a mare and her foal on the fairway gives the Forest Course a special and unique appeal.
