Camellia is slight dogleg, downhill par 4. The fairway and the landing zone both reward a right-to-left shot, so the hole heavily favors a standard draw, and will add distance if well executed. The large fairway bunker, called the MacKenzie Bunker, is now mostly out of play. It used to abut the green, which has since been moved back. The approach, instead, contends with another green with where the left side drops off steeply. The bunker right is certainly a concern, but keeping out of trouble here will be challenging for most.
“The advantage is being long enough to get down to the flat area and have a 7-iron in, instead of a 4-iron off the slope. I’m generally not long enough to get there unless the wind is blowing.”
“No matter where the pin is, hit it in the center of the green. You want center of the green. If somebody hits it close, it’s got to be the perfect wind, the perfect number. When the pin is on the right, you certainly don’t want to flirt with that bunker. It’s tricky going back toward the creek, because you’re putting up the hill, but it’s as fast as can be.”
