The course starts with an elevated tee shot to a narrow fairway to the slight dogleg left. Two fairway bunkers guard the corner, forcing players who play it safe to add distance to their approach.
The approach is to a slightly elevated green, protected by two standard bunkers, long left punishing an overzealous draw, and short right to catch a misplaced fade.
“There is no more stylish start to a round than high on a tee near a clubhouse and launching a ball well into the distance in front of onlookers… The more difficult of the two shots on the opening hole is controlling one’s approach shot into a green which falls gradually toward the back.
