The 14th is a short par 4 with a tree in the center-line of play. The tee shot gives players a choice. The standard play is to the fairway left. Here, players contend with two fairway bunkers: right-side 200 yards, left-side 160 yards, and center 225 yards out (from the back cut). From the fairway, it’s a short pitch to the green with bunkers front-left and back-center.
The other option is to draw the ball around the center tree off the tee. Played correctly, this will take all the bunkers out of play, but leaves the player in a series of rolling mounds, which lead to a highly irregular lie.
Regardless of choice, players will be cursing any mistakes, because this is certainly an opportunity for birdie.
