Hole 3, Egan’s Alley, is one of the more interesting holes on the course. The left-dogleg hides two prominent trees that dramatically shrink the landing zone with a full look a the green. The “Pro Tip” sign at the hole recommends a 175 yard lay up for the best approach to the green, but the safe lay up may leave the player needing to shape their shot into the green if they find themselves behind the large oak on the left, or the tall pine on the right. The longer hitters may play up and over the trees altogether, but standard length hitters can gamble trying to turn the corner to get a better look at the green.
The green slopes back-right to front-left, so low approach shots into the green can take the short-left bunker out of play, but keeping the ball below the hole will be challenging with some pin positions. There is another green side bunker long that will keep most long misses from running into the street.
“This manageable hole doglegs left around a grove of Monterey Pines, but be careful to lay up short of the lone Oak tree to have an unobstructed short iron into the green. This green’s main defense is its diagonal slope, but be wary of bunkering left and long.”
