Hole 3 Discussion

Cartgate (out) is a relatively short par 4. The drive plays to a wide fairway, but there are three small bunkers on the right, and the fairway does kick toward them. There is room to the left, but this brings more of the Cartgate bunker into play. There is a shallow bunker on the left, about 30 yards off the center of the fairway.

The approach is dominated by the Cartgate bunker. Running shots must be wary of the slope short of the green, which can kick shots left into the bunker, and up against the front face. Two small bunkers sit on the right side of the green, ready to catch shots from golfers wary of the Cartgate bunker.

Cartgate is named for a gate in a fence that used to provide access to the sea. The only tree on the course sits adjacent to the first tee.

Note: The Frying Pan and Fire bunkers (possibly the mixed-metaphor bunkers) have only recently been named, and the names are not official yet.
