Hole 9 Discussion

The ninth is a shorter, dogleg left par 5. The tee shot plays up toward a massive bunker on the right side of the fairway. This bunkers will definitely be a concern for longer players trying to reach the green in two.

For those playing in two, getting to the blind ridge is will leave a reasonable shot in with a flat lie. Missing right may leave a longer shot from the rough, but missing left here will put the player behind trees. The long approach will be incredibly risky, but with any luck, players will have an eagle opportunity.

For folks playing in three, any shot that takes the bunker out of play will work. Staying to the right will add distance to the hole, but will leave an easier second shot (especially if they have a hard time moving the ball left in the air).

The only risk on the second shot will be the fairway bunker short-right of the green, which should be reachable for most players. More importantly, however, is position. If the pin is in the front of the green, players should absolutely try to get to that side of the fairway, even if it means playing a shorter club.

The approach shot is defined by the massive lion’s mouth bunker in the center of the green. The green itself slopes mostly left-to-right, but there is an extremely interesting spine that stretches across the center of the green. This spine will allow players to access directly behind the lion’s mouth with a running approach, or send a putt from one side of the bunker to the other.
