The first hole allows players to take risks off the tee or just play easy on the first shot. The hole is a strong dogleg right, but the dogleg is around water, so players don’t actually need to reach to corner to attack the green.
The tee shot is defined by a large tree on the left blocking direct access to the water. Players probably won’t be able to play a fade over the water that turns back toward the fairway. The aggressive drive is a cutting draw that turns left toward the water. The safe play is a long iron, hybrid, or fairway wood to the turn, playing for a mid-iron into the green.
The approach is straight-forward but not without risks. A bunker short left adds danger to left-side pin positions, and the bunker right adds risk to players playing away from the water.
