Hole 1 Discussion

A fairly benign opening hole provides a good birdie opportunity especially when the pin is in the front.

The best line is to aim at the right side of the fairway, preferably with a slight draw. If you miss right, only the long hitters will have their miss end up in the bunker, while a miss left is certain to find the two fairway bunkers guarding that side. When playing downwind, long hitters have the potential to aim over the corner of the left bunker and have their drives hit the downslope, leaving just a wedge in. There are trees left, however there is ample room even left of the bunkers to avoid being in the trees.

The green slopes from the sides towards the middle and from back to front. The front pin concedes a lot of birdies as many approach shots will funnel down towards the hole, while back pin positions are trickier and may require a forced carry over a bunker. If that is the case, a shot towards the middle of the green will always leave a straightforward uphill putt. Neither of the bunkers are too penal, although missing left of the left bunker when the pin is on the left side will require an extremely precise flop shot in order to get up and down. Any long approach shots are near dead as there is a large slope behind the green that will require an uphill pitch to a green sloping away from you. As long as you keep your approach shots short, this opening hole should be kind to you.
